17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
Paul shares the very real battle between the Spirit and the Flesh This conflict between our new and old natures. This is not just a moral struggle, but a spiritual War! A spiritual Battle. Understanding this war is the key to being victorious in this war. The flesh wants you to live independently of God. The Holy Spirit want you to live in complete dependence of God.
